Afghanistan’s GNI Per Capita (2000–2024)

by Shoaib A Rahim

Afghanistan’s GNI Per Capita (2000–2024)

Afghanistan’s GNI Per Capita (2000–2024)

According to World Bank data, Afghanistan has remained in the low income group from 2000 to 2024. Although there was a short period of growth after 2002 mainly due to international aid and development projects, this growth was not sustained.

Over time, GNI per capita has experienced fluctuations, driven by political instability, declining foreign aid and limited access to productive economic opportunities.

One of the main reasons for low per capita income is the lack of decent jobs. Many people are either unemployed or engaged in low paying or informal employment. Without the development of stable and better-paying jobs, income levels are unlikely to improve. Addressing these structural issues is essential for Afghanistan’s long term economic stability and inclusive growth.
